Community Rallies To Support Family Of Late Long Island First Grader

Donations have poured in to support the family of a Long Island elementary school student who died earlier this week.

Daniel Rubi, a first-grade student at Tackan Elementary School in the hamlet of Nesconset, died on Monday, March 14, according to representatives at GoFundMe.

A GoFundMe set up in Daniel's memory has received more than $29,700 as of Thursday, March 17, passing its $20,000 goal one day after it was created.

Members of the community and organizations have also shared the fundraiser online with messages of support for Daniel's family.

"Our thoughts and prayers go out to Daniel's family as well as to entire community who are sharing in their grief," Sen. Mario Mattera said in a Facebook post. "My best wishes to all the students and faculty at Tackan Elementary School who must all be devastated by this loss. Rest in Peace Daniel!"

"This fundraiser is in the dedication of Daniel Rubi," wrote the Paige Elizabeth Keely Foundation, a nonprofit that raises awareness about brain arteriovenous malformations. "Daniel is a first-grader at Tackan elementary school. Sadly, Daniel passed away on Monday. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Rubi family. This Go Fund Me to help alleviate any financial burden."
